Mission: Travel the World
Outrageous goals and dreams. They are a part of everyones childhoods and they stay with us as we grow older. They may not be the biggest thoughts in our heads anymore but they definitely hold a special place in our minds.
For me growing up my two biggest goals were to play professional soccer for my favorite team, Middlesbrough and to travel the world. That first goal was far-fetched from the beginning and it seems as close as I will ever get to the Middlesbrough pitch will be from the stands.
My second childhood dream of traveling the world is something that my desire for has increased with every passing year. The more I learn about the cultures, ways, and geography of Europe, Asia, and Africa the more I crave and want to visit. The beauty that lies across the Atlantic is beauty that so many people fail to realize in this country. A lot of Americans are so enamored with our country that we forget that we are only a small part of what makes up planet earth. We don't have mountains comparable to the Alps, we lack historical sites as storied as Stonehenge and the Colosseum.
My parents in their youth had the opportunity to travel through most of Europe while living in England. They backpacked through Scandinavia, skied the Alps, and took in West Europe including Greece and Turkey. Hearing them talk about their experiences gives me chills and they always say that they wouldn't trade those times for anything in the world.
Unfortunately, moving countries and raising three kids takes a toll on a family. Throw in fights with breast cancer, epilepsy, and foreclosure and the effects are clearly visible. Our family financial situation has never been great, and all of these events coupled with my fathers insistence to put me through college has left us very limited.
That is why I am asking for any help, or donations anyone would be willing to make to help me fulfill my life goal of getting to travel the world. I would be incredibly appreciative and forever grateful for any help that could be offered.
